Social media is one of the most used kinds of apps on a teenager’s phone, but it has many pros and cons. It impacts kids’ lives, whether or not it’s good or bad. Media can be used to bring people up or to easily bring them down. Here are the pros and cons of social media.

Social media is good for many things. For example, it helps us stay in touch with old friends and family members and can teach us many things, like make-up tricks. You also can share fun photos and videos immediately with friends and family. Social media can help our social skills and we can use them for educational use. For example, when we have a group project due and can’t meet up in real life, we can make a group chat. Lastly, if we have been on social media for a good amount of time, we can look back on our embarrassing photos and laugh at how awkward we were.

Although social media has its pros, it definitely has some cons. One problem social media has is that it is a platform for cyber-bullying which usually has no consequences. Many kids get bullied on these platforms by their peers, usually using fake accounts so it can’t be traced back to them. Another problem social media has is that it makes kids so focused on fitting in. A lot of kids become self conscious and have low self esteem issues because kids do nothing but compare each other on social media. The next problem social media has is that can introduce kids to internet predators. Kids usually let a lot of people follow them that they don’t even know. Now a lot of social media platforms have places where you can talk privately or even send pictures to people, allowing more space for internet predators to attack.

Although both sides have good points, we believe that kids should be allowed to have social media but with parental supervision. We believe that if most kids have boundaries set on social media, then it’s safe to use. However, this is just our opinion and it all comes down to your family standards and preferences.
