The Blood Drive on Tuesday, October 3 was a great success! From recent events that happened in Las Vegas, a blood drive was just what people needed to save lives. When I talked to Corinne Felt, who was in charge of the Blood Drive, she said that she was very excited and proud to be part of the blood drive.

“I was driving when I heard about what happened at Las Vegas over the radio. Then it mentioned how blood was needed and I was like, “Hey! I’m doing a blood drive! It just made me happy that I was helping to save lives.”

The event, though devastating, caused people to unite and help those in need. Around 30 students, lots of faculty, and adults showed up to donate blood. Thankfully no one fainted!

The whole process starts with an interview that they do beforehand where they ask you 40 questions about yourself.  Then you show up to give blood. When you’re giving blood you hold a sponge ball in your hand in order to keep the blood circulation going. You do need to eat beforehand and afterwards you’re provided with a light snack. After people donate blood they take it away and separate it according to the type of blood.

I think that it’s cool how you can save lives just by giving some of your blood. In the interview with Corinne she also talked about when she was assigned the blood drive a guy came in to talk to her about it and that she thought he said something really cool. “The thing that I thought was awesome was that the guy said that if you donate blood, you can save up to three lives.”

Thanks to everyone who donated, and I hope we can keep having successful blood drives!
