Been awhile, hasn’t it? Too Long.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016) PG-13

Directed by David Yates. Written by J.K Rowling. Heavily inspired by the Harry Potter universe (Also created by J.K Rowling).

Eddie Redmayne as Newt. Katherine Waterston as Porpentina Goldstein. Colin Farrell as Graves. Ezra Miller as Credence.

The adventures of writer Newt Scamander in New York’s secret community of witches and wizards seventy years before Harry Potter reads his book in school. This movie is truly enchanting, as it should be. Any fan of the Harry Potter series are sure to appreciate it, and as this new series goes on, it is sure to capture the hearts of us Harry Potter nerds completely. The film takes place in 1926, and it’s just the first in a new five-film series. Newt Scamander, a Hogwarts graduate and magizoologist, is a name familiar to “Potter” fans. He never appears in the books directly, but Harry and his classmates are assigned his classic textbook: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

In the film, we meet Scamander just as he’s working on that very manuscript — and taking a side trip to New York City with some extra baggage. Because no magical trunk, chest or suitcase can ever stay closed for long in a fantasy film, Scamander’s eclectic collection of magical creatures are soon running amok around the city. I won’t give away spoilers of course, but that’s about as much of the story as I will give you!

One thing about this film that just captured my heart and attention was how they portrayed the 1920’s. Maybe that’s just because I’m an old soul, but seriously, it made that movie absolutely gorgeous. Costumes, set, and everything in between was so spot-on with the 1920’s and made my soul so happy. Anyways, this story is definitely worthwhile. I mean, it’s written by none other than J.K Rowling; of course it’s amazing! You never quite know what’ll happen next, and every moment is magical. What I’m saying, is do yourself a favor and go watch it. You’re welcome!
